FUN-damental is run by an experienced staff who will teach the basic skills and techniques of the game. We will concentrate on providing the necessary time to practice learned skills, so that games will reinforce learned basketball habits.

Meet the Director | Frank Ferreer

 

 

Frank Ferreer is the Director of Central Mass Fundamentals and possesses over 35 years of basketball experience. Coach Ferreer has served as Director of Hoop Mountain Girls Camp, staff member of Gold Star and other five star camps throughout New England.

 

As a high school varsity coach, Frank has amassed 375 career wins including league titles in the Eastern Independence League (EIL) and 5 league titles and 12 consecutive district playoff appearances.  Overall, Frank's varsity teams qualified for district playoffs over 70% of the time.

 

Coach Ferreer has received conference and school ‘Coach of the Year’ awards in 2002 and 2003. Coach Ferreer, since taking the reins of the Assabet Valley Girls program, 10+ seasons ago, has amassed a 70% win record.

 

On May 28, 2015, Coach Ferreer was named Girls Basketball Coach of the Year in Massachusetts by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).

 

Coach Ferreer has 2 State Vocational Championships and has appeared in the State Vocational finals 4 times

Coach | Dave McCarthy

Dave McCarthy is an MIAA Certified High School Coach, whose love for basketball began as a high school player, progressed as a college player, and continued through nearly a decade of coaching.  He has coached AAU teams since 2012 and has been a lead counselor for several area basketball camps.  He has directed youth basketball programs and coached at both the junior varsity and varsity high school basketball levels.

Coach Abbey began her varsity experience as an 8th grader where she quickly became the point guard at Saint Peter-Marian High School, leading her team to two Central MA semi-final playoff appearances. She finished high school basketball with two seasons at Worcester Academy.

 

Coach Abbey began her involvement with CMF as a 6th grader and continued right through high school. Over that span, she led a strong varsity AAU team as their crafty point guard. Her leadership skills and ability to make her teammates better were among her trademarks. In honing her coaching skills, she has been a staff member at multiple summer basketball camps, while also conducting clinics, and performing 1-on-1 training sessions.

Coach | Abbey MacDonald

Ralph has been a fixture as a long-time coach throughout Massachusetts. He possesses over 35 years of coaching experience including 20 years with the Melrose middle school, junior varsity, and varsity girls.

Most recently, Ralph has been coaching in the CMF AAU program. He is a former host of a local sports television show and is an avid follower of the UConn Huskies Women's Basketball program. 

His longevity, experience, and knowledge set him apart from other coaches in the area. His attention to detail and enthusiasm for hard, trapping defense, and fast-paced, opportunistic offense have been a great addition to the CMF program.

Is a rising star in the coaching scene. Coach O'Day began her coaching career at her alma mater, Tahanto Regional High in Boylston, Mass., serving as both a summer league coach and an assistant varsity coach with the Stags.

She then served as manager of the Worcester State women's team from 2018 - 2020. At the same time, Coach has been involved with Central Massachusetts Fundamentals (CMF) since 2018. From the beginning to the present, she has been a staff AAU coach, a summer camp coach, and has conducted multiple clinics.

In the fall of 2022, Coach O'Day was named the girls varsity coach at Grafton High School. In her first season, Grafton High School won the Clark Tournament and her team qualified for the State playoffs.

Coach | Adam Leverone

 

 

Coach Adam has been with CMF since the fall of 2023. Since then, he has gone from a practice coach to our lead coach and trainer for our younger teams. In addition, he has assisted and stepped in to coach our 8th and 9th grade teams.

 

Away from CMF, Coach has been honing his coaching skills and developing young players participating in the Westboro travel program. Coach is originally from Grafton, MA and at Grafton High School, he played varsity basketball.

Coach | Ashley Smith

 

 

 

Coach Smith was a 4-year varsity (2015 - 2018) 1,000 point scorer at West Boylston High School. She then went on to play 2 years of Prep School, before beginning her college basketball playing for D2 Franklin Pierce from 2020 - 2023.

 

She is passionate, knowledgeable, and eager to assist our girls develop their leadership and basketball skills.
